CONCEPT FOR FUEL DEBRIS RETRIEVAL
OAKRIDGE is developing an innovative concept for extracting the nuclear fuel debris out of the damaged reactor cores at Fukushima-Daiici.
The concept is based on the rapid pneumatic transfer of sealed capsules containing the debris. This approach offers many benefits in terms of rapidity, containment, dose limitation and compatibility with the technologies required (cutting, gripping, vision) to be provided by companies specialised in robotics.
