Following a post-Fukushima investment of approximately 100 million euros, Kyushu Electric successfully restarted Unit 1 at its Sendai facility in southern Japan. This PWR-type reactor has a capacity of 835 MWe.
This restart represents the culmination of substantial efforts by the operator to build additional defense systems, aligned with the stringent requirements of Japan's new regulatory framework.
This historic milestone demonstrates the strengthened role of Japan's new nuclear safety authority and paves the way for other Japanese utilities seeking to restart their reactors.
