In June 2012, Yoshihiko Noda, Japan's Prime Minister, authorized the restart of units 3 and 4 at the Ohi nuclear power plant, operated by Kansai Electric Power Company, following approval from local authorities.
From July 4, these units became the first to restart after the shutdowns imposed following the Fukushima-Daiichi accident. The PWR-type reactors each have a capacity of 1,100 MWe and were commissioned in 1991 and 1992.
The Ohi plant was the first installation subjected to stress tests by Japanese authorities after the Fukushima-Daiichi incident. It also underwent an IAEA mission inspection in February 2012.
